Open Two Different Instances Of Outlook With ExtraOutlook

Sure, most of the time we need to be connected to only one Exchange server or have open only one instance of Outlook. But what if we have several Exchange servers that we use daily and sometimes  need to be connected to more than one at the same time? I was facing this same problem until now. When you try to open a second instance of Outlook it would just open it within the current context.

In plain English it would open a duplicate inbox to the one I already had open. It was doing nothing for me when I need to multitask. I found this tool online  that does EXACTLY what I needed it to do and it was also FREE.

The following steps mentioned below show what I did to setup multiple exchange servers simultaneously and it worked for me!!

Step 1: Download the ExtraOutlook.exe file from this site Click Here

Step 2: Save it at your preferred location (I did it on my desktop)

Step 3: Run the first instance of your outlook server ( One of the emails that u want to setup using outlook). This opens up your first exchange server window.

Step 4: Assuming that you have created the profile and data file for the second server that u are going to setup (U need to do this by going to Control Panel -> Mail), u need to create a batch file as follows.

A batch file is nothing but a notepad file saved with the ".bat" extension. Once u save the file, the batch program will be created in the format highlighted above. In order to make this work, the most important thing is, you need to save the batch file in the same location the 'ExtraOutlook.exe' file is saved.

Step 5: Now all u need to do is, click on the batch file and Voila!!! the second exchange server is up and running.

However the only disadvantage is that, as u keep increasing the number of instances u want running at the same time, the CPU utilization increases. It does use double the memory and processor power so this would be a no go if you are running 512MB of ram. And Outlook 2007 uses even more resources than 2003 and 2003 uses more resources than 2000 so plan accordingly!

Cheers and Happy Outlooking!! :)
