The Indian Dream

Never did I think that, when I graduated from St.Joseph's two years back that I would even think of applying for my Masters in the United States. But here I am, having completed my application formalities for the universities I am aiming for. Now all I can do is wait for my admission results to come :)

I realized that the application process is not as easy as it is here in India. There were so many tests to take, so many requirements and above all, there was always the need for selecting the university that is right for us. I thought that  maybe, I could post a few entries ranging from how I took the GRE to shortlisting the universities.

Before beginning our application process, the first thing we need to do is identify our area of specialization. Most of us make the mistake of selecting an university going by its overall ranking. This is very wrong because, a particular university might not be that great when it comes to overall ranking but when a given department is considered, it might be the best in the business.

I have mentioned below some of the links which were helpful in my decision making process

  1. http://www.usuniversities.ca/
  2. http://http://www.usnews.com/education

These links should give you a rough idea at what u should be ideally looking at.

The next task on the to-do list should be registering urself with the following forum. I am sure most of you guys would have already known about it. But anyways here is the link

http://www.edulix.com

I think this site is the largest repository of information that u would ever need to find out all you need about doing ur higher studies. It has threads for everything ranging from finding out how good a university is to services for sending out your application couriers to the universities. The best thing is, it has contributions from thousands of people including freshmen, college alumni and people studying in your dream university too.

In my next entry, I will be talking to u guys  about the whole concept of GRE and how over rated it is in India. In the meantime, if you need any help, u can get in touch with me through any of the following links
